All Eyes on Rural India!

Rural India

The focus from tier I and tier II cities have now shifted to tier III cities and beyond. ECommerce retailers are grabbing the attention of rural India in order to boost sales. Hence, they are making use of modern technology tools. Mainly for voice recognition, innovative video demonstration, and vernacular language implementation reports Retail4Growth.

The Covid-19 era has, on one hand, paused brick and mortar or mainstream selling. Thus giving rise to online selling and eCommerce. A few of the sectors that received the spotlight were the agricultural sector, pharmaceuticals, and other essentials.

Since groceries were the highest demanded sector, eCommerce giants have shifted their retail and marketing focus towards Rural India. One of the major reasons for doing so includes a boost in sales. Furthermore, they made use of various tools to converse with customers in the local languages.

As stated on Retail4Growth, Amazon India states, “Hundreds of thousands of Amazon customers from tier 1, 2, and 3 cities. These cities include Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Himachal Pradesh have switched to Hindi shopping experience.”

That’s not it! Furthermore, many E-tail giants have also listed sellers from the rural sector on board. During the lockdown phase, almost 1 lakh Kirana stores listed as retailers on the platform. And the numbers are increasing every day. As recorded on the same publishing website, ET Retail said, “65% of Amazon India’s orders come from small towns and cities. More than 50% of sellers of US-headquartered retail giant marketplace are from tier-2 and below markets.”
